Market Update - Fall Design Trends 2011

Each season the home furnishings industry ushers in new styles, patterns, textures and colors.  Twice a year our buyers have the opportunity to preview the freshest looks in the marketplace in High Point, NC.  We are truly enthused by this season’s home fashions.  Perhaps the biggest story was the resurgence of color.  Beyond the safe harbor of neutral fabrics which have dominated the scene, we are pleased to announce that color has finally made a comeback!  Warm camel and golden tones are gaining popularity and look especially rich combined with fiery red, paprika and pumpkin.  What could be a better reminder of the lush fall landscape?  And while shades of gray, beige, and white are always smart choices for investment pieces such as sofas – crisp accents in bracing blues and invigorating greens provide refreshing interest.  Completing this season’s color story is the stunning application of purple – ranging from sophisticated palettes of amethyst and lavender to vivid violet and fuchsia hues.

On the style front, modern designs dominated this market.  Even traditional furniture designs employed a decidedly streamlined approach emphasizing cleaner lines and less ornamentation.  Sleek profiles paired with luxurious materials epitomize this chic lifestyle.  Look for the newest forms of contemporary styles to be warmed up with sculptural elements and fluid curves.  A light and airy aesthetic of creamy white perfectly balanced with vibrant hues create alluring elegance and sublime style.

American Vintage is another hot category - nostalgia and charm abound in this style which recalls a simpler time.  History repeats with an edgier vibe - recycled materials are common and generally boast authentically rusted and aged patinas.  Patriotic themes flourish featuring the iconic American flag.  Collectively, stars and stripes united with colonial and folkloric symbols and patterns lend hand-crafted quality and timeless appeal.

Finally, eco inspired home fashion, including Luxe Lodge style, provides an earthy array of home accents as product designers continue to draw upon natural materials.  Organic references pay homage to Mother Earth - examples include reclaimed woods and finishes that emulate the texture of driftwood, unique tables in the shape of tree trunks, wood grain textures fashioned in exquisite velvet pillows and lighting embellished with shells.  Refreshed ethnic prints such as ikat, susani and shibori patterns are also widespread.  These elements create modern yet comfortable interiors with a worldly perspective that blend beautifully with the furnishings that we already own and love.

We are excited to introduce these gorgeous new design trends to our showrooms in the coming weeks and months ahead.  Enjoy the inspiring collection of fall surroundings you’ll find at Oskar Huber Furniture & Design.
